Polish pilot Luke Czpila became today (Tuesday) the first person to
A plane landed on Dubai's famous luxury hotel - Burj Al Arab.
To land on the helipad, which is the same size as a tennis court (only 27 meters in diameter), he completed over 650 practice landings before landing on top of the 56-story hotel.
He only needed 20.76 meters to stop.
To make the feat possible, he and the CubCrafters engineering team, along with renowned American aeronautical engineer and aircraft builder Mike Patti, made several modifications to the aircraft - funded by Red Bull, which sponsored the event - and reduced the total weight to just 425 kg. They also moved the main fuel tank to the rear of the aircraft, To improve strength for Chapila's secondary challenge - taking off from the helipad.
