The government today (Sunday) approved a proposal by decision-makers to appoint a ministerial committee for burial matters.
The committee will be headed by Minister of Religious Services Michael Malchieli and Minister of Construction and Housing Yitzhak Goldknopf - who will administer it in practice.
The committee will determine the government's policy in the field of burial, will be responsible for formulating solutions for field burials, will remove planning barriers to the establishment and operation of cemeteries, and will work to reduce overcrowding in cemeteries.
Minister of Construction and Housing Yitzhak Goldknopf: "I am grateful for the privilege of leading the Ministerial Committee on Burial Affairs. The time has come to put things in order in order to resolve the existing distress in the cemeteries and to repay true kindness to the inhabitants of the earth while preserving the dignity of the deceased.".
""I am confident that by working together with my friend Minister Rabbi Malchieli, we will be able to bring good news on the subject.".
