The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court this morning ordered the release of three of those arrested in last night's demonstrations in Bnei Brak.
The police requested a removal order from Bnei Brak for the three detainees, claiming that they might again disrupt public order. However, their lawyer, Barak Cohen, rejected the claims, responding that the demonstrations were not specifically related to Bnei Brak, and that they were taking place all over the country, so there was no real reason for removal.
The judge accepted his words and ordered the release of the detainees without deportation.
Attorney Barak Cohen represents the detainees voluntarily, and this against the backdrop of a firm opposition to Zionism and the state. In a conversation with Haredim10, Cohen says that he is willing to represent any person who is arrested against the backdrop of a struggle against state coercion. "I go wherever the rabbis send me, there is someone who organizes all these things, and tells me who I should represent.".
Cohen also wanted to express his support for "everyone who fights against forced conscription.".
In addition, two detainees from the demonstrations in Jerusalem were released. A request to extend the detention of four others will be filed today.
Additional demonstrations are planned in several locations today, starting at 5:00 PM. According to organizers, the demonstrations will continue until the release of yeshiva student from Ashdod, Eliyahu Cohen.
