Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened the cabinet meeting this morning (Sunday) by announcing the establishment of a "super team" to deal with incitement to terrorism online, headed by the Minister of National Security.
'"On the terror front," Netanyahu said, "in addition to the actions and laws we are promoting against terrorists and their immediate environment, we are also working vigorously against incitement. I reached an agreement with Minister Ben Gvir over the weekend to establish a special task force to fight against those who incite murder against us.".
""The team will be headed by the Minister of National Security. He will receive reinforcements from investigators, police officers and prosecutors, in full coordination with the Ministry of Justice, and with the participation of officials from the Shin Bet, the IDF and the National Cyber Headquarters. I wish Minister Ben Gvir, along with all members of the government, success in this important mission.".
The team headed by Ben Gvir will include three sub-teams that will operate on a daily basis and meet on a weekly basis, to report on the situation and recommendations, each in their own field.
The teams that will be established: An enforcement team that will be responsible for approvals to open an investigation and prosecute - headed by the head of the AHM and his deputy, and whose members include representatives of the Investigations Division in the Israel Police, the Deputy State Attorney (Special Prosecutors) or a qualified attorney on his behalf.
Intelligence team: Its role is to examine options and improve collection and monitoring capabilities on social networks and to point out trends, to report concrete events, headed by an intelligence officer in the Israel Police and including representatives of the IDF, Shin Bet, the National Cyber Headquarters, and the IDF.
Legal Tools Team: whose role is to examine the existing legal situation and provide insights and recommendations for providing legal tools that will enable an effective response to threats and challenges in dealing with online incitement. The team includes representatives from the National Security Attorney, the Police Attorney, and the Ministry of Justice.
The proposal to establish the committee states: "The recent string of murderous attacks by very young people, some of whom were 13-14 years old, who, according to the intelligence agencies, acted out of imitation and inspiration, under the influence of inciting content on social media.".
