National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir decided today (Wednesday) that at the upcoming government meeting on Sunday, he will advance the decision to transfer the Judea and Samaria Border Police from the responsibility of the Minister of Defense, the IDF, and the Chief of Staff - to the Israel Police and his office.
Minister Ben Gvir's demand to transfer powers comes after the difficult events this morning in which Judea and Samaria Border Police soldiers attacked Knesset member Limor Son Har Melech and used violence against settlers.
A few hours earlier, in his speech as part of the swearing-in ceremony for the training battalion, Border Guard commander Major General Amir Cohen 'stung' Ben Gvir for his remarks following the events surrounding the evacuation of the vineyard. "I will not allow anyone to turn Border Guard fighters into punching bags and engage in offensive discourse that could harm the operational and professional response that the soldiers of the force are required to provide," the commander said.
Earlier today, the Minister of National Security responded to the evacuation, during which Judea and Samaria Border Police soldiers harassed MK Limor Son Har-Malech and acted with unusual violence against settlers: "We did not kidnap this boy. We joined the government on the basis of a commitment that this would be a fully right-wing government, and this policy cannot continue.".
Minister Ben Gvir's proposal at the government meeting will be submitted in accordance with the coalition agreement in which it was agreed that the Judea and Samaria Border Guard, which is subordinate to the IDF and the Chief of Staff, will be transferred to the police.
According to the minister's plan, the Judea and Samaria Border Guard will initially move from the IDF to the police, and later join the National Guard that will be established.
