Due to a diplomatic dispute with France: Two Israeli citizens who were arrested in Morocco were stuck in the Arab country in harsh prison conditions. International arrest warrants were issued by Interpol against the two, an Israeli woman and an Israeli-American citizen - and they were arrested when they landed in Morocco. But then it turned out: the French were not coming to take them. The Israeli was detained in Morocco for nine months, due to her alleged involvement in a €300,000 scam in online insurance sales. She was convicted in absentia in France and sentenced to two years in prison. The woman came to Morocco to celebrate a wedding of relatives, but as mentioned, upon landing she was arrested and held in custody. The Israeli made it clear throughout that she agreed to come to France to be tried, but France made no effort to transfer her to their custody. Attorney Mordechai Tzivin - who has represented public figures and senior officials in the past, including Maj. Gen. (res.) Giora Eiland, who previously served as head of the National Security Council, Maj. Gen. (res.) Udi Shani, formerly Director General of the Ministry of Defense, MK Avigdor Lieberman, Israel Hasson, and the Dayan Hidu Weiss from the Stamar community in Antwerp, the Moroccan consul in Israel, and the office of the President of the State - encountered the Moroccans' refusal to extradite her to France, as long as the French did not come to Morocco to take her, in accordance with extradition procedures used around the world. In the end, an original legal solution was found in France: her lawyer informed the court in France that if the country revoked the international arrest warrant against her, the Israeli would come on her own initiative and be tried in court. And so, after nine difficult months of detention in Morocco, she arrived in France. The Israeli is not the only one. An Israeli-American citizen was arrested in Morocco a month and a half ago because of an international arrest warrant she had issued. France is against him, for smuggling gat. He is being held in custody, and in Israel they fear he will end up in prolonged detention as well. [Gallery]
