Police have arrested suspects in the recent months of throwing pipe bombs, Molotov cocktails and rocks towards Rachel's Tomb. Today (Wednesday) their detention was extended and the investigation continues with the aim of bringing them to justice.
Recently, an undercover investigation was conducted in the central unit of the Jerusalem District following violent disturbances that occurred in the area of Rachel's Tomb from the direction of the town of Aida.
These riots have occurred over the past few months, with masked suspects throwing stones, Molotov cocktails, and in some cases pipe bombs. In these incidents, security forces responded with various measures against the rioters.
After police investigators traced the identities of some of the main rioters, the investigation became public on Tuesday when two suspects, Palestinian residents of Aida in their twenties, were arrested.
The suspects were arrested in their homes by Border Police undercover unit fighters together with detectives from the Jerusalem District Central Unit. During a search of their homes, necklaces with pictures of terrorists were found.
After their arrest, the suspects were taken for questioning at the Jerusalem Police Station.
The police investigation indicates that the two suspects acted as a ring and took part in disturbances and the detonation of pipe bombs in the area towards the security forces, who are constantly operating in the Rachel's Tomb area to ensure the safety and security of worshippers.
The suspects' detention was extended by 9 days in the military court today and the investigation continues.
