The Interior Ministry yesterday (Sunday) ordered Bnei Brak Mayor Avraham Rubinstein to respond within a week to a series of serious allegations - regarding dozens of senior appointments and the establishment of new departments, which, according to council member Yaakov Vider, were made in a snap and illegal manner, less than a year before the local elections. As reported in Aria Haredim 10, Vider contacted the Interior Ministry last Thursday, through his lawyer Netanel Rosenstein, and demanded that the Interior Ministry intervene and order the halting of a series of puzzling appointments in the Bnei Brak municipality - including dozens of new department managers, the cost of which and the cost of the new departments that will be established for some of them reaches tens of millions of shekels. The total number of senior appointments constitutes an addition of 40% to the existing number of department managers in the Bnei Brak municipality. In his appeal to the Interior Ministry over the weekend, Vider claimed: "This is about distributing benefits and favors to close associates in a hurry less than a year before the local elections, and that the appointments were made in a hurry and in violation of the law." He demanded that the Interior Ministry "immediately stop the illegal job celebration, the total cost of which is tens of millions of shekels of Bnei Brak residents' money." During the city council debate, the Likud council member was furious about the municipal conduct and said: "Municipal officials are completely disconnected - while the residents of Bnei Brak are collapsing from the economic burden, the Bnei Brak municipality is busy tailoring jobs and favors to close associates at a cost of tens of millions of shekels of residents' money. I will do everything to stop the oppression of the public." He added: "This stinks! There is no reason for these appointments," and claimed that this is "stepping on the residents' faces!".
