During Apple's launch event, the company's CEO Tim Cook took the stage and announced one of the phrases that were a hallmark of the company's late CEO and founder Steve Jobs: "We have one more thing," "A new product in a completely new category. We believe this will change all of people's expectations of this category," Cook said, introducing Apple's smartwatch, the first product to 'earn' to lose the initial letter i and be named Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch, Apple's smartwatch, is priced higher than its competitors (349$), and has capabilities that somewhat overshadow other recently introduced watches. The Apple Watch gets its own special menu, unlike the two competing operating systems that minimize existing icons - the watch is activated from a screen full of round icons that are undoubtedly refreshing in such a new field. "What we didn't want to do was take the iPhone interface and shrink it to the wrist," Cook declared.
The round clock direction button on the right side of the watch is the only button the entire length and width of the device and is a smart home button that activates the watch functions that are not activated from the screen. The button will zoom in and out, exit and enter menus, and more.
The watch will automatically turn on when you raise your hand, and is equipped with a square screen made of sapphire [the second hardest transparent stone in nature, right after diamond] that is able to distinguish between the levels of pressure applied when pressed. A speaker is installed in the waterproof watch so that they can make calls from it, and it will include wireless charging. The watch will include the company's new payment service.
The watch will work with iPhones, of course, but an iPhone 6 is not required; all owners of devices from the iPhone 5 onwards will be able to enjoy the watch's features.
The watch will be released in 3 models: regular Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. And six types of straps have been made for it by Apple, one of which is a gold strap, the straps change the display on the screen to match the style of the strap.
Several watch usage modes allow efficient access to menus and cellular notifications, notifications built specifically for watch users, with automatic replies appearing by default on the watch display.
A navigation app is also included on the watch, as well as several apps from leading companies that are already available in the store. The watch will accept apps from "third-party" developers - regular developers who are not Apple's.
The highlight of the watch that puts it head to head with the Samsung watch is the fitness option. The watch contains several physical monitoring measures that work by touching the wrist, and they will be synchronized with the "Health" app on the user's iPhone.
According to Cook, the watch will require charging from night to night, but it is not known what power the battery will provide.
The watch will hit stores in early 2015 and, as mentioned, will cost $349.
