""This is a very old closed conversation, a small person leaked it to a journalist. They are trying to hurt you and cause a conflict. I apologize to Netanyahu, I said things that shouldn't have been said. I learned a lesson.".
MK Itamar Ben-Gvir also commented on the recordings: "I don't hear him in private conversations speaking in this way. When I spoke to him, he explained that it was an old recording.".
Regarding the things said in the recording regarding the establishment of a government based on RAAM: "Both Bezalel and I stood on our hind legs so that there would be no cooperation between any Likud element and RAAM. My mother regrets that there are Likud elements who are taking advantage of the recording to campaign in the studios.".
In an interview with Yonit Levy on the "Main Edition" on Channel 12, he said: "I was wrong and learned an important lesson. Even in personal conversations, one has to be careful. I apologize to Netanyahu.".
Smotrich added: "Look at the great hypocrisy. For a year and a half I have been waging a global war against the left-wing government. You have never agreed to host me on the main edition, even though I asked. When do you invite me? When you think there is ammunition against Netanyahu. When do the recordings come out? When you start to feel that Netanyahu is returning to power.".
On his Twitter account, Smotrich wrote: "I am proud to have led the resistance to Abbas and the Muslim Brotherhood and am glad that the entire national camp stood behind this position. I apologize for the inappropriate words spoken in a closed room a long time ago. Just as we worked together and brought down the evil government, I will continue to join hands with Benjamin Netanyahu until victory and the establishment of a Jewish and Zionist national government.".
