Yesterday, the police arrested a Haredi man in his 30s, a resident of a Haredi neighborhood in Jerusalem, on suspicion of harassment, after he suggested that many minors have illicit encounters with him. The arrest was made following a complaint recently received at the 105 hotline by a minor, who complained of harassment. Upon receipt of the complaint, an undercover investigation was opened in the Cyber Unit of the Jerusalem Police Department, together with Unit 105, during which suspicion arose that this was a regular pattern of behavior by the suspect, who is suspected of obtaining the phone numbers of minors by trickery, establishing contact with them and offering them meetings. At the end of undercover investigative actions carried out by police investigators, suspicions of committing offenses of harassment, and harassment by telephone against additional minors, to whom the suspect is suspected of making indecent propositions and attempting to have meetings with them, in violation of the law, were revealed. Yesterday, detectives from the Jerusalem District Central Unit arrested the suspect in the act at his home. This morning, his detention at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court was extended by 6 days - until October 24, 22. The investigation continues. "The Israel Police is working to expose and deal with offenses and attempts to harm minors, including through Unit 105 - the National Headquarters for the Protection of Children Online," the police statement said. "This activity combines advanced technological tools to locate and enforce against criminals who commit various offenses against minors and attempt to harm them. The police will continue to work with enforcement authorities to expose offenses against minors in general, and to bring their perpetrators to justice.".
