Chemical weapons were fired in Syria today, but the identity of the shooters is unclear: An exchange of accusations between Syrian television controlled by President Assad's forces and the rebels over the identity of the person who fired the chemical weapon today in the village of Zeita.

At least two people were killed and over a hundred were injured in the shelling.

Syrian state television confirmed that chemical weapons were fired in a village in the center of the country, but blamed the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front. Opposition groups, on the other hand, claim that the use of chemical agents was carried out by the regime.

Human rights organizations back up the rebels' claims and say that Syrian army planes dropped explosive barrels loaded with chemical weapons on Friday, which created acrid smoke and caused suffocation and poisoning.

Meanwhile, the opposition organizations have managed to upload a video to YouTube that, they say, documents the results of the attack. Aside from the rebels' claim, there is still no verification of the video's content.

The health minister in the interim government established by opposition activists said that two civilians were killed and over a hundred were injured. He added that the substance used by the Syrian regime damages the respiratory systems of those who inhale, and there is no cure for it other than providing respiratory support to the patient.

The allegations of the use of chemical weapons in Syria are not new. As early as 2013, Assad's regime was accused of using unconventional weapons in its fight against the rebels. Assad, for his part, denied the allegations, claiming that the rebels were trying to fabricate a false story against him.
