Shooting attack: An 18-year-old yeshiva student was moderately injured this evening (Friday night) in a shooting attack that occurred in the Carmel community in the southern Hebron Hills.
The Palestinian terrorist shot at the windows of the Reuta Yeshiva's seminary and managed to escape.
IDF forces and members of the town's alert squad have launched a hunt for him. The forces are also dismantling the cameras in the town and along the roads adjacent to it, in an attempt to trace the terrorist's escape route.
The Home Front Command called on residents to lock themselves in their homes and lock the doors.
In parallel with the searches inside the settlement, it was checked whether the terrorist did not enter Carmel but fired from outside the settlement - at the yeshiva located near the fence. Rescue forces called to the scene provided medical treatment to the injured man, who suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and a superficial wound to his chest, and evacuated him to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva while he was fully conscious. "The injured man, a young man of about 18 years old, was fully conscious and suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body," said MDA paramedic Elad Fass. "He spoke to us and communicated with us. We put him in an intensive care unit while receiving medical treatment that included bandaging and stopping the bleeding, and we evacuated him to the hospital in moderate and stable condition. Our large forces are still in place and are prepared to provide medical treatment if necessary." About 100 families live in the Carmel settlement, which was established in 1981. The head of the Mount Hebron Regional Council, Yohai Damari, who is in the settlement, updated the residents: "This is a squad that apparently carried out a shooting outside the settlement. We are making sure that there is no terrorist inside the settlement. Residents are locking themselves in their homes." About an hour after midnight, the Home Front Command updated: "Following the alert that was activated regarding the infiltration of terrorists in the Carmel settlement, the handling of the incident has ended. You can leave your homes and move around the area without restrictions.".
