Esther Pollard, may God have mercy on her, at the end of the month of Shevat, at the age of 68, after a long struggle with a serious illness.
The Pollards had no children. After their immigration, they told Israel Hayom about the heavy price they paid in not being able to have children due to their 30-year imprisonment. ’It’s one of our greatest tragedies,“ Esther said in an interview, ”one of the things that caused us the greatest sorrow.“.
Pollard and his wife Esther immigrated to Israel on December 30, 2020, after the movement restrictions that applied to him in the United States were lifted and he became a free man.
Pollard served 30 years in prison and was released from prison in 2015.
Esther was born and raised in Canada as Eileen Zeitz, the daughter of an Orthodox Jewish family. In the late 1980s, she taught English at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as part of her master's degree studies.
Esther devoted her life to Jonathan, with devotion. Under her influence, he repented and became close to Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu zt”l. They married in 1993. She immigrated to Israel in 2005, and the entire community fought for his release.
