Former MK Zehava Galon was re-elected this evening (Tuesday) to the position of party chairwoman and will lead it in the elections for the 25th Knesset.
She defeated Deputy Minister of Economy, MK Yair Golan, by a large margin of 60-40.
After Galon, the following were elected to the Knesset list in the primaries: Musi Raz, Michal Rozin, and Ali Salalha.
Yair Golan only came in fifth place, followed by Gabi Laski, while Minister Nitzan Horowitz was only elected in seventh place - which means: he will not be part of the next Knesset.
In a speech Galon gave after her election, she said: "What a team Meretz has. Wow!! To all those who eulogized Meretz, I have news for you: Like a phoenix rising from the dust to a new life - tonight Meretz was resurrected. And tonight, Meretz is returning to the ascendancy. Just as the struggles of the left are awakening and strengthening in the world - that's what happened tonight in Israel as well. The left is alive and well. And tonight the leftists returned to Meretz.".
In the Meretz primaries, 811,300 voters in the party voted.
