After four years of freezing: The Ministry of Religious Services is raising the salaries of rabbis and heads of religious councils.

This is real news, as the rabbis' salaries have not been updated since 2018.

The salary of city rabbis today is an average between the salary of the mayor and the salary of the deputy mayor.

According to the law, salaries must be increased immediately when the mayor's salary increases, but the rabbis' salaries have not been updated for four years, even though the salaries of mayors and other public employees have increased.

Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services, Shimon (Moni) Ma'atuk: "This is a necessary step for the rabbis of Israel and the heads of religious councils who are engaged in providing religious services with endless dedication. I am happy that under my watch, led by Deputy Minister of Religious Services Matan Kahane, things are indeed happening and the rabbis of Israel see that we are aware of their rights and are updating their salaries, which have not been updated since 2018.".

Deputy Minister of Religious Services, MK Matan Kahane: "This is an important and necessary step for the rabbis of Israel and the heads of religious councils who sanctify the name of God in their activities and make religious services accessible in a bright light in the cities and towns where they operate. It is not clear why the rabbis' salaries have not been updated for four years. My appreciation for the rabbis of Israel and the heads of religious councils is expressed in actions, not just words. Updating the salaries is an important amendment.".
