Most people who reported post-coronavirus symptoms continue to report the same symptoms even a year and a half after recovering from the disease, according to a study conducted among a sample of Maccabi recoveries and published this morning in Kan News.
More than 501% of those who reported fatigue after the illness were still tired after a year and a half.
Among the recoveries who reported three or more symptoms, approximately 65% still reported the same symptoms after a year and a half.
Dr. Dan Oyero, a family physician and one of the study's authors, said that the results surprised the research team, as it was assumed that recovery from coronavirus would be faster.
According to the data accumulated so far in Israel and around the world, 10-51% of adults who have recovered from COVID-19 may develop post-COVID-19. It is estimated that about half of the population in Israel has been infected with COVID-19. According to this estimate, the number of people suffering from post-COVID-19 could reach approximately 460,000 people.
A study conducted by another health insurance company shows that out of approximately 80,000 people who recovered from coronavirus, approximately 141% of those who recovered suffered from at least one symptom for 12 weeks or more after recovery.
The most common symptoms were memory or concentration problems, muscle pain, loss of taste and smell, and headaches.
