Babysitter and three children hit by car: The offending driver fled - and was arrested

Hit-and-run accident: A babysitter and three children were slightly injured this evening (Monday) when a vehicle hit them on Kehilat Safed Street in Netanya.

The offending vehicle fled, but a short time later the driver - a 37-year-old city resident - was arrested.

Rescue forces called to the scene provided medical treatment to a 22-year-old woman, three children, ages 6 and 3, and a one-year-old toddler.

The injured were evacuated to Laniado Hospital in the city.

Peleg Zakkai, a United Hatzalah medic, who provided first aid at the scene: "According to passersby, the babysitter crossed the road with the children and all four of them were hit by a vehicle. I provided them with first aid and then they were evacuated to the Laniado Medical Center.".

The police said they detained a Netanya resident for questioning on suspicion of involvement in a hit-and-run accident in the city a short time ago. "Officers at the Netanya police station began searching after receiving a report of 4 citizens who were hit by a passing vehicle in the city. Initial investigative actions and searches carried out by the police at the scene led to the detention for questioning of a 37-year-old resident of the city a short time later.".

The police added: "At the end of the investigation and based on the evidence, a decision will be made whether to arrest the suspect and bring him before a judge tomorrow with a request to extend his detention.".
