Making order in Meron: The Carlebach family's guest houses in Meron were demolished today (Sunday) and removed from the Rashbi Zion complex.

‘The 'Carlebach Complex' is located in Toldot Aharon Square and surrounds the 'Gesher Dov', where the 'Meron Disaster' occurred, in which 45 revelers died at the Rashbi celebration. The complex included dangerous structures that were built without a permit and had serious safety deficiencies.

The evacuation of the complex removed the dangerous structures above and below ground level and opened up the Aaron History Plaza significantly.

The court issued the demolition order, accepting all of the state's arguments and determining that the preservation of human life outweighs any other public or private interest.

Today's demolition was carried out after the Supreme Court rejected the association's request for leave to appeal against the District Court's decision, which accepted the Land Enforcement Authority's request to issue a judicial demolition order on the buildings.

Justice Yosef Elron of the Supreme Court ruled: "The applicant repeatedly emphasizes in her arguments the special public nature of the tomb complex and its sensitivity. There is no dispute about this. However, I believe that her request is clearly contrary to the public interest.

""The lower courts have determined that the structures pose a 'real safety risk,' and I therefore see no reason to intervene, certainly not within the framework of a 'third incarnation'; and it is made clear that the enforcement activity is being carried out as part of the lessons of the terrible disaster that occurred, in which 45 people lost their lives; and given the clear interest in maintaining public order in the area, among other things for the purpose of preparing for the upcoming Lag BaOmer festivities - there is definitely a 'special public interest' in granting the requested orders.".

""The request for leave to appeal is therefore denied. With its denial, the request to stay the execution of the demolition orders becomes redundant.".

To date, dozens of illegal structures that were erected over the years in the Zion compound have been demolished. 'Gesher Dov' and 'Gesher HaCohanim' have also been demolished.
