MKs from Yamina and Tikva Hadasha voted against the proposal, with the exception of MK Yom Tov Kalfon - who abstained.

When Prime Minister Naftali Bennett voted against, MK Kati Sheetrit shouted at him: "Shame on you. You said this was the first thing you would do when you became prime minister. You stole their votes, shame on you.".

MK Yariv Levin said in response: "Naftali Bennett, Ayelet Shaked, Zeev Elkin and Nir Orbach today once again turned a cold shoulder to the children of the pioneers in the young settlement.".

Levin added: "While the Arab invaders of state lands in the Negev are being connected to electricity, the children of the settlers will continue to suffer from the cold this winter as well. This is another record of disgrace, cynicism and broken promises by people who are not even interested in the plight of small children.".

The Young Settlement Forum will respond: "We are tired of the political wars on the backs of our children and we are tired of seeing again and again how humanitarian bills for settlement are rejected again and again, by those who pledged to support us.

""There is a 'general's order' ready for signature on the government's desk. Sign it. Our children no longer have the strength to go through the cold and darkness of the upcoming winter storm.".

Minister Matan Kahane said in a Knesset plenary debate: "There is nothing that scares the Likud more than the regulation of young settlement. Any progress in regulating young settlement in this government will be a political disaster for the Likud. That is why you are doing everything to prevent such a regulation.".

Kahane added: "You know that the way to address this humanitarian issue is through amending the Electricity Law by a general order and not through trifling bills. But if the young settlement is regulated, you will be in a serious problem. Because the public will understand that for 12 years, Yariv Levin and the Likud have oppressed the young settlement and prevented any attempt to regulate it. Even when you were at the head of a completely right-wing government with a sympathetic American administration, you did nothing.

""Why did Netanyahu and the Likud never regulate the young settlement? Because you simply don't care. That's why even now, when there is a possibility of doing big things, you are doing everything to harm the young settlement. We, on the other hand, are working against you to bring a real solution to this issue.".

MK Eti Atiya said in response to the defeat of the electricity law for the young settlement: "It is a shame that the prime minister, who promised to connect the Judea and Samaria settlements to electricity and talks about creating a new national camp, failed the practical and basic test and voted together with his party against a national and essential law that would have granted Zionist and ethical legitimacy to the Judea and Samaria settlements.""
