In a post published today (Tuesday) by Yoav Elisey, known as 'Hatzel', on his Facebook account, he wrote:
""Did you think Osem's pasta was expensive?! Pay attention to the couscous... Look at Osem's greed and exploitation. Forget that they are by far the most expensive of all.".
""Yesterday I received a message from an employee of Couscous Foods who explained to me that they (Osam) produce the couscous, and instead of listing the name of the factory, they list the English acronym KM (-Couscous Foods Ltd.), to hide the combine and sell it for almost twice the price of the same product. They are really laughing in our faces and selling us the same product for much more.".
''Hatzel' also posted on social media a photo of himself at the supermarket with a cart and a shopping list that his wife had prepared for him - in which it says next to each product: "Just not Osem.".
The price differences between Osem and couscous companies, Taman, and Shopsfal, where 350 grams of 'thin couscous' is sold for between 4.50 and 4.90 NIS, compared to Osem, which sells the same product in all chains for almost double the price - 7.90 NIS. Haredim 10 contacted Osem with the question: Does the company manufacture the product 'thin couscous' through 'Couscous Food Ltd.'. If so, why is there such a significant price difference? Osem responded: "The price to the consumer is determined by the retailer. In a check we conducted on online shopping sites of marketing chains, including all chains, it emerged that the price of 'thin couscous' 350 grams of 'Osem' - which is produced, as mentioned, in a factory together with the competing company 'Couscous' and other companies - is always higher than the competing company's product. Another question: If the price is set in the retail chains - why is 'thin couscous' sold at the same price in all chains? Osem refused to tell Haredim 10 what price the product in question is sold to the marketing chains, and they also refused to address the question of why the company is changing the manufacturer's name - Couscous Food Ltd. - to English initials.
