The terrorist fled the scene immediately after spilling the coffee on the Jew. According to the indictment, on April 19, 2021, Soylem, then 19, was sitting on the steps near the Nablus Gate in Jerusalem. At one point, he approached four minors sitting next to him and told them that he intended to pour a cup of coffee on a Jew who would pass by, out of a racist motive. Together with another young man, he went to buy a cup of hot coffee, and the two waited for the Jew to pass by. A few minutes later, around 7:00 a.m., the two young men noticed a man of religious Jewish appearance walking down the stairs towards the Nablus Gate with a tallit, but Soylem did not have time to pour the cup of coffee on him. Then another man of religious Jewish appearance walked by, and Soylem advanced towards him while one of the minors encouraged him and another minor filmed the act live on TikTok. According to the indictment, the attacker even looked towards the camera and said: "Take a picture of the face." Soylam continued walking towards the Haredi, bypassed him - and then poured the hot coffee on his face. The Haredi suffered first-degree burns and was evacuated from the scene in an ambulance while suffering from severe pain, shaking and stunned. Border Police forces stationed in the Shaar Shechem sector immediately arrested two of the suspects who took part in the incident and documented it, and on the same day the circle was closed, and the main suspect was also arrested at his grandmother's house in Isawiya in the east of the city, after fleeing the scene. According to the report in Kan News, the Arab perpetrator was convicted in a plea bargain of causing serious damage with a racial motive and violating privacy. In addition, he will pay 18,000 shekels in compensation to the victim. Attorney Yosef Mazar, who represents the Haredi victim of the crime, said: "Attacking a Jew because he is Jewish is an illegal and prohibited act. Words cannot describe the feeling of humiliation and insult that the victim of the crime experienced following the racist attack. We welcome the court's decision and the appropriate punishment that the terrorist received, and we hope that the punishment will deter other people with malicious intentions. We now also intend to file a civil lawsuit for these criminal acts.".
