A 31-year-old woman, in her ninth month of pregnancy, was hospitalized at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus two weeks ago, in light of a significant deterioration - due to the flu she was suffering from.
Upon admission, she underwent a cesarean section, during which a healthy baby was born. After the surgery, she was ventilated and put to sleep, due to respiratory complications.
Despite the improvement in her condition in recent days, last night (Friday night) her body's systems collapsed, and despite intensive resuscitation efforts by the intensive care unit team, they were forced to declare her dead.
The hospital said: "We share in the family's grief. The hospital staff is supporting her during this difficult time. The case has been reported to the Ministry of Health.".
According to data from the National Center for Disease Control, as of last week, 1,088 hospitalized patients had been reported since the beginning of the season, including 401 children and 70 mothers and pregnant women.
Most of the patients were infected with influenza A virus, which was identified by the Central Virology Laboratory as influenza A/H3 subtype, which is included in the influenza vaccine administered this season in Israel.
