Alarming findings: For the first time in Israel, confirmed cases of the Omicron variant were discovered without being able to be attributed to a known source of infection.
This was reported this evening (Monday) by Kati Dor on 'Kan News'.
The discovery of these cases means that the chains of infection have not been completely broken, which could indicate the beginning of a loss of control. The Health Ministry said: "The spread may be more widespread than we thought.".
Currently, there are between five and nine confirmed cases whose source of infection is unknown. Some of them live in Modi'in and some in Ra'anana.
The report also stated that the worst-case scenario regarding Omicron predicts a peak of 15,000 infections per day, due to the fact that the strain is highly contagious.
Last night, at a meeting of the Ministry of Health's pandemic response team, preliminary data on the decline in third-dose vaccinees was presented. Although there is currently no severe morbidity, we are seeing an initial increase in morbidity among third-dose vaccinees.
Meanwhile, there will be an extensive discussion tomorrow about changing the criteria for defining red countries. Due to the changes, which include the threshold for those verified for the coronavirus in various countries, the list of red countries is expected to expand significantly starting Friday.
According to Sharon Idan's report, areas in Terminal 1 designated for returnees from red countries will be expanded starting this week, as part of the assessments of the fact that a significant portion of European countries are expected to become red.
