The festival is observed by the kindling of the lights of a 'hanuckia' - a nine-branched candelabrum, with one additional light being lit on each night of the holiday. As is known, the most common disasters during the days of Hanukkah are caused by the placement of the Hanukkah candles, by children's easy access to fire, and by burns from oil. Therefore, a number of actions are included to reduce the dangers, courtesy of the 'Truth for Yaakov' organization, so that the days of Hanukkah may pass peacefully.
The menorah should be placed on a stable, wide, non-flammable surface, such as a metal surface, and not near a curtain or tablecloth. You should also ensure that the candles or oil cups in the menorah are stable.
Children will light Hanukkah candles only under adult supervision, and the lighting will be with a candle and not with matches.
Flammable materials should be kept away from the menorah, such as books, papers, shelves, and fabrics.
If several menorahs are lit instead of one, they should be spaced apart.
Do not use menorahs made of flammable materials, such as wood or plastic products.
Do not leave a lit menorah unattended. As long as the menorah is lit, make sure there is an awake adult in the house.
Matches should be returned to their place immediately after use.
Frying pancakes and donuts should only be done by an adult, without children present nearby, and the frying position should be placed on the inside of the stove.
Coins and small spinning tops should be kept away from children under the age of three.
And whoever said enough to his world will say enough to our troubles.
"And to the one who warns and to the one who warns, give peace like a river of water.".
