The war ended with a sharp lesson – next time, we will allow those who want to evacuate, we will provide them with the solution, there is no reason for children, women and even men – heaven forbid – to remain living in an area that is being bombed only in the name of unity. They are not defending Degania here in the War of Liberation. No one is trying to conquer Nahal Oz, they want to harass the residents, scare them and harm them. There is no reason to give the other side this pleasure, certainly not when it was clear that there were at least a few more weeks of shelling to come. Let them bomb empty kibbutzim until it is over.
So why didn't they allow an orderly evacuation, at least for those interested? More than a month and a half and they're still relying on voluntary efforts (respect to the kibbutz movement and the kibbutzim that bore the burden). Shame. Where is the Minister of Finance? Has he already returned from Germany? Where is the Minister of Economy? Apart from defeating Hamas, doesn't he have a responsibility to push this through?
