The police investigation conducted by the Crime Investigation Unit in the Lowland Region revealed that this was a gang of pickpockets, men and women residents of the center, who operated throughout the country on a daily basis, mainly against the elderly population in shopping areas and markets.
During the investigation, it became clear that the pattern of action and method of execution were the same in all cases: marking a potential victim, distracting him by one of the members of the cell, while another steals the wallet containing credit cards and the cell phone from the victim's bag.
Immediately afterwards, the suspects leave the scene, before the victim notices that he has been robbed, and withdraw money from a nearby ATM.
By secretly monitoring the members of the cell, the unit's detectives were able to record their activities in real time and thus collect a lot of evidence against them.
As the investigation moved into the open phase, 5 suspects were arrested for questioning last week.
The detention of the two main suspects was extended from time to time in court, and this morning the police prosecution filed a statement of claim against the two suspects - 25 and 20 from Ramla, stating its intention to file an indictment against them in the coming days, as well as a request to detain them until the end of the proceedings.
