Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: In Kfar Chabad, the elder of Chabad Hasidim in the world, the HaGaach Rebbe, passed away today (Wednesday), at the age of 99. Haim Binyamini, late, who served as the Lubavitcher Rebbe's emissary for 50 years in Petropolis, Brazil - and the founder of the 'Mahane Yisrael' yeshiva, the first yeshiva on Brazilian soil. He influenced generations of students and brought many closer to Judaism. About 50 of his students currently serve as rabbis and Chabad leaders around the world.

From his life story:

The late Rabbi was born in Budapest, Hungary, on Tevet 1, 1843, to his father, Rabbi Binyamin Ze'ev Fischer, and his mother, Mrs. Chaya Leah.

As a child, he attended the Jewish school in his hometown, and at the age of 14, he was sent by his father to a yeshiva in the city of Tab, where he studied Torah with the head of the yeshiva, Rabbi Yosef Frankfurter - until the outbreak of World War II in 1939, when he was sent by his father to a yeshiva in the city of Paks, headed by Rabbi Shimshon Altman.

When the yeshivot were closed due to the threat of war, he continued his studies with his uncle, Rabbi Yitzhak Zvi Pant, the rabbi of the city of Konsentmiklos, and even received ordination to the rabbinate from him.

He survived the horrors of the Holocaust in labor camps, and arrived in Paris with a group of 100 other young men, and from there he continued his voyage by ship to the Land of Israel, arriving on the 2nd of Menachem Av, 1955.

In Kislev 2, 5711, he married his wife, Mrs. Rivka, née Steinberg.

In 1975, he was sent as a representative of the Jewish Agency's Torah department to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and worked in education for three years, establishing an extensive system of Torah activity such as the "Bar Ilan" school.

Upon completion of his mission, he returned to Israel and settled in 'Meshuot Yitzhak', where his initial contact with Chabad Hasidism began, following a 'Chabad Shabbat' in the settlement.

Rabbi Benyamini was enthusiastic about the gatherings for the niggunim and Torah readings, and following the Shabbat, a weekly lesson in the Tanya was established on the kibbutz, in which he began to participate regularly, with his connection with Chabad Hasidism deepening from time to time.

In the summer of 1919, he wrote his first letter to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and from then on he began to consult with him about every detail of his life.

In 1961, he was appointed to manage the 'Or Etzion' yeshiva, and in 1963, he was forced to leave the management of the yeshiva, and was sent to Brazil for the second time by the Jewish Agency as a representative of the Torah department.

In Brazil, his connection with Chabad followers in general and with the Rebbe in particular strengthened, and he scheduled lessons in Chassidism with Chabad followers in Brazil. In 1966, he established the yeshiva in Petropolis, and in connection with the purchase of the land, he traveled to the Rebbe for the first time on 12 Tammuz 1966.

His family remained in Rio de Janeiro, following his wife's contract that required her to continue working as a high school teacher in my place until the end of the year, and only later did the family reunite and move to Petrópolis.

The 'Mahane Israel' yeshiva was the first yeshiva in Brazil, and most of Brazil's rabbis were educated there.

In his last years he lived in the village of Chabad.

He left behind Yavdalaht:

His son the Rabbi Avraham David Binyamini - Director of the Machane Israel Yeshiva in Petropolis, Brazil.

His daughter, the rabbi's wife Menachem Lehrer - Former chairman of the Chabad Village Committee, and CEO of the Tomchei Tamimim Yeshivot Center in the Holy Land.

His daughter, the rabbi's wife Joseph Yitzhak Feiglstock - Rabbi of the Chabad community, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral will leave at 6:30 PM from the Benyamini Amrei Bina home at 6, to Har Hamenuchot - where he will be buried.
