The initiator of the 'Ice Bucket' campaign - Corey Griffin - who conquered the world in recent weeks, died by drowning, reports the 'Hollywood Life' website.
Griffin was diagnosed with ALS, a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in 2012. Along with other friends, he founded the "Ice Bucket" campaign, in which many celebrities, but also millions of "ordinary" people around the world, pour a bucket full of ice water over themselves, to raise awareness of the serious disease and raise funds for research to find a cure.
Among the celebrities who participated in the campaign were former United States President George W. Bush, and all the big names in the high-tech world.
The campaign was successful and tens of millions of dollars have been raised so far, or $22,900,000 to be exact.
A few days ago, Griffin participated in a fundraiser that raised $100,000. He then went scuba diving off Nantucket Beach in Massachusetts. Witnesses say he dove, surfaced once, and then disappeared.
At three in the morning, his body was found and he was pronounced dead.
His friends said that Corey dedicated his entire life to helping others, culminating in the fundraising campaign that, as mentioned, resulted in a donation of tens of millions of dollars.
