Commentator Nahum Barnea from Yedioth Ahronoth criticizes Naftali Bennett's trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, and his decision to attack senior officials in the Israeli healthcare system - while he is overseas.
""The best thing that can be said about Bennett's trip to New York is that it was unnecessary...", writes Barnea in his column in Yedioth Ahronoth. "Bennett knew that he would not find leaders of states in New York to meet with. Most of them were content with speeches on Zoom, because of the coronavirus.".
According to Barnea, Bennett is having difficulty freeing himself from Netanyahu's shadow.
'"He came to the rally to stick a pin in the map, a picture in the album. Was Netanyahu there? He will be there too. He wanted to establish in the minds of Israelis the fact that he is the prime minister, fully and completely, he and no one else.".
Barnea states that Bennett's criticism of the Ministry of Health in a briefing he gave in New York, "was a mistake of Dardek. The public does not like politicians who wash their dirty laundry outside. The insult is unfounded, of course. It reminds one of jokes about Polish mothers, who carry their insult to their grave. What will they think of Sharon Al-Rai at the UN? They will not. And yet, the damage has been done.".
