He will be buried tomorrow at 12:30 in the old cemetery in Ramla next to his father, the Rebbe Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhatzeira, Baba Khaki zt"l. He was the nephew of the "Baba Sali" Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira zt"l.
The late, z"l, was born in the city of Erfoud in the Tafilalet district of Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his father in 1959, at the age of 11, and grew up in Ramla. He studied at the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva in Kfar Haroeh, at the Teachers' Seminary in Jerusalem, and at Bar-Ilan University, where he earned a BA degree. He served as a high school teacher and later joined politics.
In 1969 he was elected to the Ramla City Council, and from 1972 to 1977 he served as mayor. After completing his term, he was elected a member of the Knesset on behalf of the National Democratic Party in the 8th Knesset, and in the 9th Knesset he served as Minister of Religious Affairs.
He later founded the TAMI movement and served as Minister of Absorption and Immigration and Minister of Labor and Welfare.
Abuhatzeira legislated the National Insurance rights: old-age pension, children's pension, and unemployment benefits.
MK Uriel Bosso, his nephew, eulogized: "With great sorrow and dark grief we received the difficult news of the passing of my dear uncle, former Minister Aharon Abuhatzeira, who made a tremendous contribution to the state, helped the most disadvantaged, and in Israeli society he loved the people of Israel, the Land of Israel, and the Torah of Israel."
""He helped the weaker sections and among his notable achievements was that he managed to pass a series of laws that would help them, legislating the rights of national insurance, old age pension, children's pension and more. This is the way he grew up in his father's house, the great grandfather, the crown of our heads, Saydna Baba Khaki, may his memory be blessed.""
He is survived by his wife - Germaine, daughter of Rabbi Machlof Abuchatzira, Av Beit Din of Marrakesh, and six children.
His brother is Rabbi Yechiel Abuhatzeira, the rabbi of the city of Ramla.
In light of the holiday, his grieving family will observe Shabbat immediately after the holiday.
