Minister of Religious Affairs to Rabbis: 'The Haredim present me as Antiochus and the wicked Haman''

Yesterday (Thursday), a closed meeting was held between some of the most well-known and significant rabbis in religious Zionism - spanning a wide spectrum from conservative to liberal rabbis - and Minister of Religious Services Matan Kahana. Ask the CEO לפי דיווח של חנן גרינווד ב'ישראל היום',  הפגישה התקיימה בניסיון לצמצם את ההתנגדות העזה שהשר סופג בשבועות האחרונים בשל ה'רפורמה בכשרות', שזוכה לקיתונות של זעם ולהתנגדות משמעותית מאז פורסמה, בין היתר מצד חברי מועצת הרבנות הראשית ובראשם הרבנים הראשיים. בדיון השתתפו הרב יעקב אריאל, הרב אליקים לבנון והרב אריה שטרן, שהביעו התנגדות רבה לרפורמה בכשרות, לצד הרב דוד סתיו, יו"ר ארגון צהר - ארגון שהצהיר כי הוא תומך ברפורמה. עוד השתתפו בדיון הרב איתן אייזמן, הרב איסר זלמן קלונסקי, הרב זאב ויטמן (רב תנובה) והרב יוסף ארציאל (מנכ"ל איחוד רבני הארץ הטובה). בישיבה, שנערכה ביוזמת השר כהנא והרב אייתן אייזמן, הביעו הרבנים את החשש מפני הרפורמה, שלדבריהם עלולה להזיק לכשרות. השר כהנא, מצידו, ביקש מהם לנסות ולהתעלם מהקונסטלציה הפוליטית ומרעשי הרקע ולבחון את הרפורמה בעיניים מקצועיות בלבד. לפי בדיווח, בשיחה טען השר כי לא מעט מההתנגדות נובעת כתוצאה מהשיח סביב הממשלה ולא מסיבות מקצועיות.
