The number of active carriers in Israel now stands at 38,942 people. A week ago, there were 23,739 active carriers in Israel - so within a week, the number of active patients has almost doubled.

For the first time since the end of March, the number of hospitalized patients in serious condition has reached 400, of whom 87 are in critical condition and 62 are on ventilators. This is a doubling of the number of seriously ill patients, compared to less than 200 patients two weeks ago.

The number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 6,580 people, with four people dying today and 11 dying yesterday.

Since the beginning of the week, 38 people have died from complications of the virus.

Vaccinated persons data: Since the campaign to vaccinate those aged 60 and over with the third dose of the vaccine, which began about a week ago, 654,051 people have been vaccinated. 5,403,357 received the second dose of the vaccine and 5,822,097 received the first dose of the vaccine.

A report from the Intelligence Information and Knowledge Center stated this morning: "The morbidity indicators continue to soar - the number of confirmed cases daily is around 6,000, the positive rate is close to 5 percent, the number of patients in serious condition is close to 400, and the number of deaths has also increased - about 70 in the past week.".

The researchers further noted: "The infection rate is still high and reflects a doubling of the number of confirmed cases and patients in serious condition approximately every 10 days. Without significant actions to slow the rate of infection - mainly widespread vaccination of the public, wearing masks in closed spaces - including vaccinated and recovering people, as well as tight control of those returning from abroad - a dramatic increase in the number of patients, especially those in serious condition, is expected, which will lead to a dangerous burden on hospitals within weeks.".

Prof. Galia Rahav, director of the infectious diseases unit at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, said this morning in an interview with Aryeh Golan on the This Morning program on the B network that she hopes the fourth lockdown will be spared us, and emphasizes that it takes time for the effect of vaccines to be felt.

""If there had been warehouses two weeks earlier," she said. "Then maybe we wouldn't be seeing this now. I don't know if there was an unnecessary delay, we are the first country to take this step and it takes time to make decisions like this. It's hard to make them when there's no increase in morbidity and when there's already an increase, many times it's a little too late.".
