The government recently decided that the green light will apply to synagogues with more than 50 worshippers. However, even in these cases, no enforcement mechanisms have been given to the authorities.
Businesses such as restaurants that admit customers without a vaccination or recovery certificate may be fined thousands of shekels - but the regulations did not stipulate any sanctions that would be imposed on synagogues that violate the regulations.
Health Ministry officials said they were surprised by the breach, but explained that this was due to the difficulty of the legal authorities who drafted the regulations in determining who would be considered the owner of the synagogue, as opposed to a business.
Following the discovery of the loophole in the regulations, the chairman of the Constitution Committee, MK Gilad Kariv, is threatening that he will not approve the green-note regulations and that they will not take effect until a solution to the issue is found.
The Ministry of Health is now looking for a quick and creative solution to the loophole created by the Corona Cabinet.
