"Israeli Ambassador to the US and the UN, Gilad Erdan, spoke today with Naftali Bennett and asked to end his role as Israeli Ambassador to the United States - immediately upon the appointment of a new ambassador.".
Erdan announced that in any case he will not continue in office after November.
Erdan will continue to serve as Israel's ambassador to the UN.
Erdan's term in Washington was pre-allocated to the end of November 2021, in light of the coalition agreement signed with the formation of the previous government. This is in light of the rotation established at the time between Netanyahu and the previous alternate Prime Minister Benny Gantz. Erdan was the first to hold both positions since the days of Abba Eban in the 1950s.
Ambassador Gilad Erdan: "I am proud to have the privilege of representing the State of Israel before our most important ally. Since my appointment, I have worked to build and solidify the relationship with the Biden administration, strengthen the alliance between us, and maintain bipartisan support for Israel.".
'"The strong ties built with the administration proved themselves in Operation 'Guardian of the Walls,' during which the American administration supported Israel's policy, while working together to block initiatives against us in the Security Council, and receiving security assistance that will enable the renewal and upgrading of the Iron Dome missile defense system.".
'"However, it is correct in my opinion that the person who will represent the government vis-à-vis the American administration will be appointed by the current government, and therefore I expressed to the Prime Minister my willingness to end my term immediately after the confirmation of an ambassador on his behalf in the government. I will continue to defend Israel at the UN and fight for our justice in the international arena.".
