The Minister of Regional Cooperation, MK Isawi Frij from Meretz, spoke today (Thursday) with Aryeh Eldad and Roni Bar-On on 103FM and addressed his position on the Family Reunification Law.

""We need to approach the issue neither as a right nor as a left, in the end we are human beings. Human rights are the essence of Meretz, and we are talking about thousands of citizens who have lived here for decades without rights in the democratic State of Israel," he said. "Those people cannot get a driver's license, have difficulty receiving medical treatment, cannot work and fly through Ben Gurion Airport, these are basic rights.".

When asked why the differences of opinion on this issue were not taken into account before the government was formed, he replied: "We thought of everything. When I come to a change government, I expect change. I had a meeting with Bennett and Shaked about the issue, and I saw attentive people who understand the issue.

""This will be resolved, we are human beings, we will think outside the box and create solutions that will please both sides. We are not a firing squad, and we are dealing with human rights and not a national issue. There are many people who live in conditions that are not suitable in a democratic country.".

""The security system can review any request, security is above all else and who are we to go against it, but letting people live in the same conditions as people live is not appropriate.".
