Ben Gurion, for all his virtues and rights, knew what was required for him and the left to remain in power. Back in the days of the Histadrut, representatives were elected/appointed on a party basis. Ben Gurion and the other leaders of the Histadrut made sure that there was always a quarrel and debate between the various parties, religious/secular, right/left, democratic/social, Ashkenazi/Sephardi, etc., in a classic Stalinist method known as "divide and rule.".
The Agency served as the People's Council that magically became the Constituent Assembly, and its sole function was to establish a constitution for the State of Israel. Instead, in a clearly illegal process, a distortion of justice, and a gross trampling of democracy, Ben-Gurion supported the transformation of the "Constituent Assembly" into the "First Knesset" without it performing the sole function assigned to it, which was to establish democracy in the State of Israel.
Since then, the system has been maintained and all means are kosher to ensure that the left remains at the reins of power, including cynical use of the legal system, the media, workers and capital. The left's greatest fear has always been and always will be that one day the right, the religious and the ultra-Orthodox will unite together and turn the country into a true democratic state, and in war as in war, all means are kosher.
One of the methods developed by Lenin and Stalin and perfected by the Israeli left to the point of art is the use of "useful idiots," those who come up with seemingly just claims in the name of lofty ideas such as equality, justice, peace, unity, etc. In most cases, they themselves are unaware that they are being exploited to continue the quarrel and debate between the various factions, and for the noble goal of keeping power in the hands of the left.
During Operation Protective Edge, there was a rapprochement between all factions of the people, a unity that I believe has not been seen since the founding of the state and perhaps even centuries before.
Now, just imagine how afraid the leftists are that this unity will become something real, which could threaten their hegemony. The old methods didn't work out so well either, the left's ritualistic demonstrations during wartime didn't get the attention they deserved, the calls for the enlightened world to judge Israel for international crimes fell on deaf ears, and the left had no choice but to find the "useful idiot" on duty to do the job for them.
A letter to my Soviet brother
And they succeeded: This time the blame was placed on Reuven HaCohen Uriah, who claims to be a student of Rabbi Yisrael Ze'ev Gustman, zt"l, but the rabbi is turning in his grave at the blasphemous and hateful words coming out of his student's keyboard. Even Uriah himself feels uncomfortable with his arguments and mentions how much he held back throughout the operation until he could no longer hold back, which is a shame.
The article, which was entitled to appear on the front page of Makor Rishon because of its importance in the service of Pravda propaganda, bears the title, "A Letter to My Haredi Brother" and should have been called "A Letter to My Soviet Friend." In the article itself, whose style is more appropriate for the country, the author takes care to plant half-verses in it to justify his words, relying on the fact that most of the Torah-oriented public has already left the newspaper Makor Rishon, and probably none of the readers will notice the distortions.
Is there justification for turning the words of a rabbinic text into a law while completely ignoring the verses and the basic commentaries? It is true that in Parashat Pinchas (Numbers 31:4) it says, "A thousand, below, a thousand, below--for all the tribes of Israel," including the tribe of Levi, but immediately in verse 5 it says, "A thousand below--twelve thousand" and not thirteen thousand? Did the author not see the words of the Ra'am, the Maharal, and many other good commentators who struggle to resolve the contradiction between the two verses, or perhaps he chose to ignore them in his ridiculous attempt to please the left?
You are not a soldier in God's army.'
When asked about his critics, Major General Winter replied, "The person who attacked me for the letter has probably only seen weapons in pictures, has never been in combat in his life, and does not know what fighting spirit is." And I say that anyone who sees fit to take advantage of a few days of respite (because we are still at war, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool) to attack the Torah study of the Haredi public is not a soldier in God's army, does not love Israel, not even the State of Israel, and certainly is not my brother!!
My sons in yeshiva studied under the "Alef Lemmata" framework for their cousins, one a commander of the Egoz patrol and the other in the armor reconnaissance company, and they appreciated, understood and thanked them for it, and only Oriya has a problem with the Haredim's Torah study. I'm sure that even his sons, who he claims are serving in combat in the operation, are uncomfortable with their father's blatant words.
Major General Duvdevani, one of the founders of the Givati Brigade and the Haredi Nahal Battalion, told Channel 20 that the Haredi Netzah Yehuda Battalion begged to be transferred from Jenin to Gaza, especially in light of the fact that fighting in built-up areas is its specialty, and yet it was not called up. Even my son, a combat lieutenant colonel who served three years in Netzah Yehuda, asked his liaison officer to volunteer and was told that there were over 400,000 volunteers, there was no need for you. Mr. Oriya dismisses all of this with a wave of his hand. The army transferred the Haredi to Kfir, and of all the infantry, only Kfir was not called up to fight. Oriya's response to this amounts to a line in parentheses, "The number is small, accepted in retrospect.".
Don't let him confuse the facts.
But Mr. Oriya will not let the facts confuse him. As someone who throughout the war found it necessary to investigate the haredi public and its reactions in depth, "I found myself walking in a haredi city," as someone who is familiar with the details of every haredi yeshiva in the south, "even though the yeshiva in the south have dispersed to the north," it will not help to ask him to come to Yeshiva Toshiya with 850 young men studying there in Moshav Tifrah, as well as Yeshiva Negev in Netivot, Yeshiva Ofakim, Sderot and others that number thousands of young men who did not move a millimeter and even stayed on Shabbat and in between times, because truth and peace are not a candle to his feet, but to tease and chastise. Was this the way of his teacher and rabbi, the late Rabbi Rabbi Gustman? To look for the bad among all the good, like looking for a needle in a haystack?
And don't be fooled for a moment into thinking that there are no "useful idiots" in the Haredi public. A classic example is Attorney Halbertal, who has now found it appropriate to attack the settlements as a reason for war. He is not the only one. What a shame that there are still media outlets that are supposed to be a platform for the Torah-fearing public, who ultimately serve division and separation.
