According to a report in 'Kan News', MK Isawi Frij from Meretz has already submitted a proposal to dissolve the Knesset, in coordination with Yair Lapid.
The report states that the initiative will be advanced if it becomes clear in the final days of Lapid's mandate that it is not feasible to form a left-wing government.
The goal is to prevent the transfer of the mandate to the Knesset for a period of 21 days, during which Netanyahu can try to form a right-wing government headed by him. And also to scare the factions that fear a fifth election, so that they will move in his direction.
According to a report on Channel 12, envoys on behalf of Lapid even approached Netanyahu's people and suggested that they support a proposal to dissolve the Knesset - on the grounds that this would allow a more convenient destination for the elections for both sides, but that the Likud does not intend to support this - and the intention there is to try to form a government, which seems hopeless.
Yamina Party Chairman MK Naftali Bennett said today at a faction meeting that the possibility of forming a government headed by him with the far-left parties is not on the table - for now.
'"The Likud's proposal for a worthy party," he said of the proposal submitted by the Likud party to Bennett. "But the problem is that even with us, the Likud does not have a government. The possibility of a government of opponents of Netanyahu has been dropped for now.".
Meanwhile, the Yesh Atid chairman continues his efforts to form a government: by the end of the week, he is expected to reach agreements with the center-left parties - a total of 45 seats.
Kan News reported that New Hope chairman Gideon Sa'ar made it clear that he would not join Lapid's government without Bennett. On the other hand, Yamina chairman Naftali Bennett is continuing negotiations with the Likud, and is considering closing an agreement on Netanyahu, even without a government.
Lapid said today at the start of his faction's meeting that he believes Naftali Bennett made a mistake when he stopped negotiations to form a coalition with Yesh Atid and noted that he will work to have him reconsider. "I hope he will reconsider. This is something that sometimes happens in political life. It may be that sometimes it also changes the opening conditions," Lapid said.
He noted that "while we are here, in Kfar Maccabiah, our negotiating teams are sitting and trying to establish the government of change. The chances are not high, but as long as there is a chance, even the smallest one, we will turn over every stone to establish a government.".
