The Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the city's Magistrate's Court this morning (Tuesday) against Yosef Peretz and Yosef Matoff for assaulting a public servant under aggravated circumstances, theft under special circumstances, and the offense of threats, after the defendants attacked a news crew of Kan 11, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.

According to the indictment, on May 13, calls were distributed on social media and via WhatsApp to come to the Hatikva neighborhood in Tel Aviv to hold a march towards Jaffa, and to attack Arabs who happened to be in the marchers' path.
The messages sent asked those arriving to equip themselves with, among other things, clubs, knives, guns, and tear gas.
In light of the above, Kan 11 employees, reporter Yoav Zahavi London and cameraman Rollan Nowitzki, arrived to cover the incident. As the team began preparing for the broadcast, Peretz and another person began shouting at the corporation's staff: "Why are you filming here? Don't film here. Go film in Ramla Lod where people are shooting. Not here where Jews are singing" - while pushing the microphone that Yoav was holding in his hand.
The corporate staff began to move away, while Peretz continued to shout at him.
Meanwhile, Peretz turned to the people gathered there and shouted: "Guys, these are the anti-Semitic Channel 13 reporters. These are Channel 13 reporters.".
After Rollan made it clear to him that they were from 'Here 11' - Peretz replied: "11 are also anti-Semites, you are leftists, you are leftists, you..."'
In response, the corporation's staff moved away and crossed the road to the other side of the street. At this time, Peretz made telephone contact with Matof and told him: "Come here quickly, they are broadcasting from Channel 11.".
While the corporation's staff was on the street, the defendants attacked Rollan from behind and, by surprise, Matuf hit him on the head with a helmet and also hit the camera he was holding in his hand, which fell from his hands and crashed onto the sidewalk.
Immediately afterwards, Peretz kicked Rollen and attacked him with his fists. While attempting to defend himself from the attack, Rollen tripped and fell backwards. As he was getting up, Matof slammed the helmet on his head. As a result of the respondents' actions, Rollen suffered serious injuries, including to his face, scalp, and neck, and required medical treatment.
In the request for detention until the end of the proceedings, Attorney Neuman Wasserman stated: ""The fact that this was a deliberate attack, in which the respondents targeted the corporate staff for a violent attack, without any provocation on their part, and in the context of performing their duties, testifies to the dangerousness of about a thousand witnesses. The words of Respondent 1 throughout the entire incident, which reveal his position towards the media teams, indicate that these were acts committed on a real ideological basis. ... This is compounded by the words of the respondents upon their arrest, according to which they are prepared to repeat the acts.""
