The life of a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler who choked on a candy bar was saved thanks to the quick response of a United Hatzalah paramedic. United Hatzalah emergency medical volunteers from the Ashdod branch were called this evening (Thursday) to Yehuda Hanasi Street in Ashdod, near the switchboard, following a report of a choking toddler. Shalom Oberlander, a United Hatzalah paramedic who quickly arrived at the scene: "I noticed a toddler who was on the street with his sisters, when he was choking, with a complete blockage in his trachea due to a foreign body. "I performed quick Heimlich maneuvers on the toddler and he spit out a jelly candy. After a few minutes he recovered and regulated his breathing. It was a stressful moment when he wasn't breathing, and this quick action saved his life.".
