Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Ra'am Chairman Mansour Abbas to enlist his support for the direct election law. This was reported this evening (Wednesday) by senior political commentator Amit Segal on Channel 12.
According to the report, Netanyahu spoke with the heads of other left-wing parties about the law - Meretz Chairman MK Nitzan Horowitz, Labor Party Chairman MK Merav Michaeli, and Blue and White Chairman Minister Benny Gantz.
Netanyahu examined with the four the possibility of supporting the law in all sorts of situations - if he returns the mandate, if the mandate goes to the left bloc and it fails to form a government - and also if the mandate is transferred to the Knesset.
The assumption among Netanyahu's entourage is that Mansour Abbas will agree to support the law if he receives an appropriate reward from his perspective.
In such a situation, if Naftali Bennett also supports the initiative, it will return to the center of the political agenda.
