MKs Michael Malchieli and Moshe Arbel submitted today (Monday) to the Knesset Secretariat the bill for the direct election of a prime minister - in an attempt to resolve the political impasse.

According to the proposal, the elections will be held within 30 days, and the candidate who receives 40% of the votes will win.

MK Yinon Azoulay said this morning on the B network about the bill: "At this time, Minister Aryeh Deri's proposal to promote a direct election law is the most correct thing. I am sure that even the 'Bloc Only Not Netanyahu' factions will support the move so that we can see clearly and distinctly who the people want at the head of the government.".

However, the Boycott Bloc expressed opposition to the proposal this morning.

Yisrael Beytenu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman said: "Changing the Basic Laws as planned at your request is an invalid step and Yisrael Beytenu will oppose it. As Netanyahu's pressure intensifies, he is using a flawed method to keep him and the ultra-Orthodox parties in power. Yes to changing the system of government - no to breaking the rules of the game.".

MK Meir Cohen of Mish Atid said in an interview on Galei Tzahal: "It is impossible that every time something doesn't work out for the prime minister, the entire Knesset is convened to find some alternative. We must stay on the clear parliamentary track, we will do everything to establish a unity government.".
