The girl, a resident of a city in the Shephelah, arrived at the hospital on Saturday evening with severe symptoms and difficulty breathing.

It is not yet clear from whom she was infected.

The girl's father told Israel Hayom today: "At first her condition was mild, but at the end of the week it got worse, her fever rose and she didn't want to go to the hospital. She was very scared. She said that people get infected with diseases in hospitals.".

The father added: "On Friday morning, her grandfather brought her an oxygen device, but it didn't help. When we saw that she was having trouble breathing, we brought her to Kaplan Hospital. She cried all the way to the hospital.".

In a conversation with News 12, the father said: "Around 3 a.m. on Friday, I heard a scream: 'Dad, I'm suffocating.' The saturator showed that her oxygen was at 78, a very low figure. I immediately called an ambulance that took her to Kaplan Hospital, where we were told that she was suffering from disseminated pneumonia due to complications from the coronavirus.".

He added: "The situation was really bad, but this morning there was an improvement in her condition and we are looking forward. To anyone who claims that children do not get seriously ill with Corona, I say - look at the situation my daughter reached, she could not breathe on her own, not even for a short time.".

Dr. Eli Shapiro, director of pediatric intensive care, said: "She requires non-invasive ventilation and the unit's staff is providing her with dedicated care, including intravenous therapy, which is common in these situations.".
