Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: Rabbi Michael Yechiel Bodenheimer, Rosh Kollel in Modi'in Illit, passed away this morning (Sunday) at the age of 76 at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, after a serious illness.
The late Rabbi Zt"l was born in the USA in 1955 to his father, Rabbi Yehuda Bodenheimer Z"l.
He served as head of the 'Nerot Zechariah' kollel in Bnei Brak and Modi'in Illit.
Despite being modest and secretive, he became famous 11 years ago, in 2007, as someone for whom the Mossad - according to foreign publications - used a fake German passport in his name, which was carried by an Israeli known as Uri Brodsky, who was allegedly involved in the assassination of senior Hamas figure Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai.
His family members then issued a sweeping denial of his involvement in the affair or any connection with the Mossad.
In interviews he gave to the media at the time, he referred to the German passport: "Although my parents were born in Germany, I was born in the United States. I never applied for a German passport and I never had one. This whole story doesn't belong to me and it doesn't scare me.".
In his will, he asked his family to refer to him after his death only with the title "Rabbi.".
He left behind a blessed generation of righteous people: sons and daughters, sons-in-law and descendants who continue his legacy.
His funeral procession will leave this morning at 11:00 from his home at 7 Donolo Street in Bnei Brak to Mount Hamunehot in Jerusalem, where he will be buried.
