The chairman of the Israeli Party and mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Ron Huldai, has retracted his statement that he would open cultural events in Tel Aviv next week.

In an interview he gave this evening (Tuesday) to Sheli Yachimovich and Yigal Guetta on Channel 2, he said: "I will not break the law.".

He explained that he contacted the Ministries of Culture and Health several times with a precise and reliable outline of how cultural life could be restored in the shadow of the Corona pandemic - but the outline was not accepted.

""Therefore, my statement was a defiance to arouse the public and show them the hypocrisy and politics that are being done in the government's considerations.".

He added: "Instead of accusing me of breaking the law, the government should explain to the public why the outline I proposed cannot be implemented. There is no reason why 100 people in Arad could not sit 3 meters apart, and four musicians on stage - all of whom have been vaccinated.".

Two days ago, the mayor of Tel Aviv announced on Channel 2 that he intends to open all cultural institutions in the city. "In ten days, we will open the cultural halls because there is a large audience of vaccinated people with green cards. We can't wait until the last day before the elections for Netanyahu to say, 'Here, I opened it for you.' There is no reason why someone who has been vaccinated cannot come to the Cameri.".
