Facebook announced last night (Friday) that for now there will be no change to the privacy policy for WhatsApp users, and that it is postponing by three months - until May 15th - the deadline by which users can approve the application's new terms of use.

Facebook's announcement follows harsh criticism from users of the app, due to the requirement to share their information with Facebook, and after millions of users switched in recent days to competing apps Telegram and Signal, while WhatsApp suffered a hard blow and fell in the download charts in the app stores.
In an official statement, Facebook said: "There has been a lot of misinformation that has caused concern and we want to help everyone understand our principles and the facts. We understand how much confusion there is around the latest update... No user account will be deleted or suspended on February 8th and that there will be no changes to the privacy policy until May 15th.".
The company emphasized that it will work to provide clearer explanations to users, with the main goal being "to let people review the new policy at their own pace.".
Signal reported more than 8 million downloads, and Telegram last week reported 25 million new users in just 72 hours.
