Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg announced this evening (Thursday) that the Facebook page of outgoing US President Donald Trump will be blocked for at least two weeks - until the transition of power is completed on January 20.
In a post published by Zuckerberg, he wrote: "The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly show that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the legal and nonviolent transfer of power to his successor, President-elect Joe Biden.
""We are extending the blocking of his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely, at least for the next two weeks, until the transfer of power is complete.".
He said, "The risk of allowing Trump to continue on our platforms during this time is simply too great.".
The blockages were carried out due to a series of videos and posts published by the president yesterday, in which he urged his supporters to leave the Capitol building, but continued to call the election "fraudulent" and oppose the acceptance of the democratic process that elected Biden as the next president.
Following this, Twitter announced that it would block accounts for 12 hours. Shortly thereafter, Facebook and Instagram also blocked Trump - for 24 hours.
Today, as mentioned, the network giant decided to block until further notice.
