After the previous wave saw the ultra-Orthodox sector record relatively low morbidity, the daily report by Prof. Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science indicates that the rate of increase in the ultra-Orthodox sector has reached its peak compared to the second wave.
This, he said, is a 9-fold increase in the last 3 weeks, with the infection rate standing at 1.89 - doubling every 4 days.
These figures, says Segal, are being published even though there is partial immunity for approximately 35% from the sector.
Prof. Segal tried to trace the cause of the current outbreak this morning. "Perhaps it is due to a change in behavior, perhaps the Hanukkah events, and we need to genetically test whether this is the British mutation, even though there is still no certainty that it is more contagious.".
