'"Another historic breakthrough today," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Our two great friends - Israel and the Kingdom of Morocco - have agreed to full diplomatic relations. This is a huge breakthrough for peace in the Middle East." As part of the agreement, the United States will recognize Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara. The president wrote that "Morocco recognized the United States in 1777. Therefore, it is appropriate to recognize their sovereignty over Western Sahara." This is a territory that Morocco claims ownership of, and annexed it in 1979, but the international community did not recognize this. As part of the agreement, Morocco will open an official mission in Israel and Israel will open a mission in Morocco. There will also be direct flights between the countries. The US president spoke by phone with King Mohammed VI of Morocco and informed him of the recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara. The Twitter account of the Moroccan Foreign Ministry retweeted President Trump's tweets about establishing full relations with Israel. Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, said that Morocco will renew official ties with Israel, will allow Israeli airline planes to pass through Moroccan airspace and will allow direct flights between Israel and Morocco. According to him, peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia is also on the way. "An Israeli-Saudi agreement is just a matter of time," said Kushner. A US administration source said that peace between Israel and Morocco was forged together with the Americans for nearly two years, closely accompanied by Kushner - and the recent peace agreements signed between Israel and Arab countries were the catalyst that convinced Morocco to join the move. The source added: "This is going to be the most fruitful peace of the four moves that have taken place so far, because Morocco is very interested in developing relations and strengthening Israeli tourism to it, which is already operating in various ways.".
