Meanwhile, three days before the presidential election, the United States passed another grim milestone last night, according to Reuters, when over 100,000 new infections were reported in a single day. The total number of people infected with the pandemic so far now stands at more than 9 million, almost 31% of the country's total population.

The abnormal increase is also evident in hospitals, which are at the brink of their ability to handle the number of cases coming to them, while at the same time the average number of deaths is about a thousand people a day.

The total number of victims of the virus rose over the weekend to 229,000. The number of people hospitalized increased by 50 percent in October and stands at 46,000.

At the same time, according to a data analysis conducted at the University of Washington, the number of victims will continue to rise, with the expectation being 72,000 deaths in January.
